Cheongwadae, the Blue House, the Korean presidential residence :청와대 관람하기(예약하기) : 청와대[靑瓦臺]

청와대[靑瓦臺]Cheongwadae, the Blue House, the Korean presidential residence

The presidential residence of Korea is located at the foot of Mt. Bukak behind Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul.

During the Joseon Dynasty, as part of Gyeongbokgung Palace, it was Yeonmujang and Pastjang,

After the establishment of the government in 1948, it was used as the presidential residence and was called Gyeongmudae,

It was changed to this name when the Democratic Party of Korea took office after the April 19 Revolution.

Cheong Wa Dae is a facility that was used as the office and residence of the President of the Republic of Korea. It is located in Cheong Wa Dae-ro 1 (Sejong-ro), Jongno-gu, Seoul. Since liberation, Cheong Wa Dae, from the Rhee Syng-man administration to the Moon Jae In administration, has the function of the presidential office where the president of the Republic of Korea performs his official duties and the presidential office where he lives after work.

Since Yoon Suk Yeol's presidency in 2022, only partial practical facilities such as the Blue House guesthouse have been actively used for meetings and forums, and most other facilities have been fully opened to the public, not functioning as an office. After the opening, the Blue House is operated by the Blue House Management and Utilization Promotion Team of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Accordingly, the president as a state agency or the presidential secretariat was shortened to describe it as Cheong Wa Dae or Cheong Wa Dae.After the office is relocated, the expression Cheong Wa Dae cannot be used, and there is no special name for the Yongsan building, so the presidential office, a functional name, is used rather than such a proper noun.

In 1948, former President Rhee Syng-man took over the former Joseon Governor-General's residence, which was used as the official residence of the U.S. military commander, and began to use it as the office of the president. Former President Yoon Bo-sun of the 2nd Republic renamed Cheong Wa Dae based on the blue roof and roof of the main building of Gyeongmudae, and it was maintained until the end of the Roh Tae-woo administration, the first president of the 6th Republic, which was established through democratization. Since then, former President Roh Tae-woo has built a hanok-style Cheong Wa Dae main building at the end of his term for raising the self-esteem of the people.

The President of the Republic of Korea is not only the head of the administration, but also the head of state, and the personnel working in the Blue House assist the head of state and command the ministers and vice ministers of the administration. In addition, if you return to the administration after working at the Blue House, there is a perception that you will be dispatched to the Blue House because you have friendship with Cheong Wa Dae workers and politicians. Therefore, it could be said to be the "heart of the power of the Republic of Korea," which many public officials and politicians want to work the most.
